The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, nickname the Sharks, are an Australian professional rugby league club based in Cronulla, in the Sutherland Shire, Southern Sydney, New South Wales. The Sharks compete in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership and are the only remaining foundation club still playing in the NRL.
The Sharks were formed in 1967, as a team for five Sunday Football League clubs, after a proposal from Paul Doyle of Woolooware High School. Doyle’s father, Vincent, along with Ralph Wilson and Bob McConville, were the driving force behind the formation of the club. The club was originally to be based at the showgrounds in Woolooware, but instead decided to play at Shark Park at Woolooware Bay. The colours chosen were blue and white.
The Sharks made their debut against St George in round 8 of the NSWRL’s 1967 premiership season.
